How we help

Care that meets your family where you are

Whether you need a steady hand with daily life or comfort-focused support through a hard season, we shape our care around your loved one and your family.

In-home personal care

Help with the everyday: bathing, dressing, grooming, meals, medication reminders, and getting safely around the home, all in familiar surroundings.

Hospice & end-of-life comfort care

Gentle, comfort-centered care for a serious or terminal illness, focused on dignity, easing discomfort, and walking alongside the whole family.

Respite care

Time to rest. We step in so family caregivers can take a breath, run errands, or simply recover, knowing their loved one is in caring hands.

Companion care

Company that lifts the day: conversation, a shared meal, light housekeeping, errands, and a watchful, friendly presence that keeps loneliness at bay.

Why the dove

Born from a heart that gives

Mourning Dove began with Amanda Houlton, a wife, mother, and woman of deep faith from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Years ago she did something rare: she became a living kidney donor for a United States veteran, and she has remained a passionate advocate with DOVE, Donor Outreach for Veterans, ever since.

That same calling, to give back to people in their most vulnerable moments, is the reason Mourning Dove exists. The dove has long been a symbol of peace and comfort, the quiet presence that stays close through loss. That is the presence Amanda wanted to bring into homes across the U.P.

"We help so family can be family. When the days are hard, you should get to be a daughter, a son, a spouse, not just a caregiver."

Alongside Amanda, Taylor Houlton serves as Administrator, keeping every family's care thoughtful, organized, and personal. Together they are building something the U.P. has always deserved: care delivered the way you would want it for your own.

With care, Amanda & Taylor Houlton

What we believe

The promise behind every visit

The values that guide how we show up for your family.

Dignity is not negotiable. Every person we care for is treated as someone deeply loved.

Our first principle

Families carry enough. We carry the rest, so you can hold the moments that matter.

Peace of mind

Comfort, faith, and presence. We meet hard seasons with a gentle, steady hand.

When it matters most

This is the U.P. Here, neighbors care for neighbors, and no family walks alone.

Good questions

What families ask us

Home care supports daily living at home, things like personal care, companionship, meals, and homemaking. Hospice care is comfort-focused care for someone facing a serious or terminal illness, centered on dignity, symptom relief, and supporting the whole family. Mourning Dove can walk with you through both, and help you understand which fits your situation.

We serve families across Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Wherever you are in the U.P., give us a call and we will talk through how we can reach you.

It starts with a simple conversation, no pressure. Call 906-280-9296 or email MourningDovecare@gmail.com, and we will listen, answer your questions, and help you figure out what kind of support would help your family most.

Yes. Respite care exists for exactly this. We step in so you can rest, work, or simply breathe, knowing your loved one is cared for. That is the heart of what we do: we help so family can be family again.
